Vallarta Pushes Summer Trips in Tijuana and Mexicali

Vallarta Pushes Summer Trips in Tijuana and Mexicali

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 18, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta is taking its summer travel pitch north. Tourism representatives are courting travel advisers in Tijuana and Mexicali as the destination works to strengthen domestic bookings before the vacation season.

The push included trade seminars in Baja California for nearly 100 travel advisers. Presentations focused on hotels, restaurants, culture, recreation, nature activities, and air connectivity.

The effort was led by the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust with the Guadalajara visitors office, Record Vacation, and local hotel partners.

This was not a random stop on the sales calendar. Baja California remains one of the stronger domestic markets for Pacific beach travel, especially because Tijuana and Mexicali already have easier air links to Puerto Vallarta than many Mexican cities farther inland.

From Tijuana, travelers can reach Puerto Vallarta on direct service marketed by Viva and Volaris. From Mexicali, Volaris is also selling service to PVR. That gives Vallarta a practical route into a market that includes both Baja residents and cross-border travelers from Southern California.

Puerto Vallarta’s airport is still working through an uneven year. GAP’s preliminary May figures showed total passenger traffic at Puerto Vallarta down 14.4 percent from May 2025, while Tijuana also fell 9.8 percent. Guadalajara, by contrast, rose 7.1 percent.

That makes the Baja California campaign more than a tourism-board handshake. It is part of a broader fight for accessible, bookable travelers at a time when Vallarta cannot rely solely on its traditional U.S. and Canadian demand.

The destination has been trying to widen that base in several ways. Recent route work includes new Volaris links into Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco’s separate effort to secure more Aeroméxico service for both Guadalajara and Vallarta.

On the consumer side, Puerto Vallarta’s official tourism offers page is also carrying summer hotel promotions, family deals, and seasonal travel windows. That gives advisers something concrete to sell after the seminars, not just a general pitch about beaches.

For local businesses, the key question is whether those meetings turn into room nights, restaurant tables, tours, and airport arrivals. Summer visitors from Baja tend to travel as domestic vacationers, often with family groups and shorter booking windows. That can help hotels and service businesses fill gaps between stronger international seasons.

Check airline schedules before making plans, compare fares directly through the airline, and watch baggage rules closely. Low base fares can change fast once seats, bags, and payment fees are added.

At PVDN, we will be watching whether this sales push produces visible summer movement at PVR, especially on Baja routes. The seminar count is useful, but the real test will be whether more travelers from Baja California actually show up in Vallarta this season.
