Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 25, 2026 – Yacht slips are getting harder to find in Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas. Local marinas are approaching full occupancy as private yacht owners use the bay as a longer-stay Pacific base.
Marina operators expect occupancy to reach 100 percent in the coming weeks. Boats from Mexico, the United States, and Canada are helping drive the demand.
A quieter tourism economy
Marina demand doesn’t work the same way as hotel demand. Boats don’t land for a weekend and leave. They stay, need repairs, take fuel, hire crews, and use local services.
That makes the current dock activity worth watching alongside air traffic. Puerto Vallarta airport traffic fell hard in May 2026, led by a sharp international drop.
The marina picture looks stronger. Some yacht owners are not planning a short vacation. They’re basing boats here, storing them here, or using the bay as a stop along Mexico’s Pacific coast.
The bay’s marina circuit
The local marina network stretches from Marina Vallarta to Nuevo Vallarta and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Together, those docks give the bay one of Mexico’s strongest nautical footprints on the Pacific.
Marina Vallarta lists 354 slips for boats up to 160 feet. It also offers fuel access, pump-out service, dry dock, power, water, oil disposal, restaurants, and quick access to the airport.
On the Nayarit side, Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz lists more than 340 slips. Its services include a fuel station, shipyard, rigging, welding, pump-out service, sailing schools, restaurants, and a public dinghy dock.
Paradise Village Marina adds 200 berths in Nuevo Vallarta, including space for larger vessels. It offers security gates, dock lockers, boat maintenance, gray-water pump-out service, and dry storage.
The bay’s five-marina circuit is often counted as about 1,350 positions.
Why yacht stays hit more than the dock
Long-stay boats spread money through trades that most tourists never see. Owners hire electricians, welders, painters, divers, carpenters, mechanics, cleaning crews, and provisioning services.
That spending also reaches restaurants, taxis, laundries, hardware stores, medical offices, and supermarkets.
The strongest marinas act like small service districts. They need skilled labor, steady utilities, security, waste handling, and reliable access.
The Puerto Vallarta port authority’s 2026 service tariffs show how specific this economy gets. Charges are separated for private yachts, tourist boats, passenger movement, overnight stays, and dock areas.
Marina activity also shares space with neighborhood infrastructure needs. In Marina Vallarta, treated-water line work continues on Albatros Street. That project adds temporary lane pressure while expanding reuse capacity.
