Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Hotels, restaurants, and residents along Puerto Vallarta’s bustling Northern Hotel Zone should brace for an eight-hour water service outage on Friday, April 25, as utility crews replace a worn valve on the main supply line.
The Puerto Vallarta Drinking Water, Drainage and Sewerage System (SEAPAL) announced that the shutdown will begin at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to last until 4:00 p.m. The affected corridor runs from Guatemala Street in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood, past the Olímpica, Versalles, and Díaz Ordaz districts, includes part of Fluvial Vallarta, and extends to the Krystal Hotel.
“The valve on this pipeline has reached the end of its service life. Replacing it now prevents larger failures during peak demand,” SEAPAL said in a statement.
What to Expect
- Who is affected: Businesses and households in the Northern Hotel Zone and nearby neighborhoods listed above.
- When: Friday, April 25, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Why: Scheduled replacement of a critical valve that has deteriorated from years of water friction.
- Where the water comes from: The zone is supplied by the Mojoneras del Cerro del Machete treatment plant, which draws from a radial well. Closing the line is necessary to safely install the new part.
Tips for Residents and Businesses
SEAPAL recommends storing enough water tonight to cover basic needs—drinking, cooking, and essential cleaning—through Friday afternoon. Customers are urged to:
- Fill clean containers and reserve them for potable use.
- Avoid non-essential water use such as washing vehicles or irrigating landscaping.
- Check plumbing fixtures once service is restored to clear any air pockets that may cause sputtering.
Service Restoration
Crews plan to restore flow gradually starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Normal pressure should return within the following hours; large buildings on higher floors may experience a brief delay. If discoloration occurs, let the water run until it clears.
SEAPAL apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the community for its understanding during the Easter Week break, emphasizing that proactive maintenance helps ensure a reliable supply heading into the hotter months.
