Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 20, 2026 – Sammy Daniel Pérez Rojas, the 34-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran whose family lost contact with him in Puerto Vallarta on July 31, has been found alive in Texas.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed his location in a public notice Wednesday night. The agency said the authorities involved were continuing the steps needed to follow up on the case. NoticiasPV reported the Texas confirmation after the state announcement.
The result ended nearly three weeks of uncertainty after Pérez Rojas disappeared while in Puerto Vallarta. The search gained wider attention this week when his relatives circulated photographs and appeals across Jalisco.
Earlier Wednesday, PVDN reported the family’s request to help locate Pérez Rojas. His sister, Paloma, said he was experiencing a crisis and needed medical attention. His mother also shared a video asking him to return home.
The confirmation arrived during a week of increased attention to disappearances in the city. A PVDN review of Jalisco registry data published Tuesday placed Puerto Vallarta’s official unresolved caseload at 568, an increase of 32 since the end of 2025.
People who shared the Pérez Rojas missing-person alert can now replace it with the verified update that he was located alive in Texas. Jalisco authorities said follow-up work on the case was continuing.
