More than 30% increase in passenger arrivals at the Puerto Vallarta Airport

The arrival of national passengers to Puerto Vallarta through the International Airport increased by more than 30% during the month of July, according to data from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, the concessionaire of the air terminal.

The national market has been one of the main travelers to Puerto Vallarta, with 140,150 passengers attending by air, which represents an increase of 30% compared to 2021 when 108,150 national visitors were received, while in comparison with 2019 an increase of 37% is achieved with 102,100 users.

Even in the month of July 2022, the highest figure in the entire year in arrival of national passengers was registered with 140,150 passengers, having in turn 81,100 in January, 72,400 in February, 95,950 in March, 113,900 in April, 116,555 in May, and 115,450 in June.

In international arrivals, the increase during the month of July is also significant, registering 139,200 passengers in 2022 against 120,400 last year, an increase of 16%. While compared to 2019, prior to the pandemic, there is an increase of 43% when 97,650 users were received.

To date, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport has received a total of 735,500 domestic passengers and 1,106,550 international passengers.

National Tourism in Mexico

Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, announced that for the next long weekend, which will be from September 16 to 18, 2022, to celebrate Mexico’s independence, it is estimated that more than two million national tourists will travel to the destinations from the country.

In addition to the two million tourists who will travel, on the holiday, on September 16, 1,012,000 tourists will book hotels in different destinations throughout the country.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that during this period from Friday to Sunday, a hotel occupancy of 51.6% is expected nationwide, this is only 2.1 percentage points less compared to the same ‘bridge’ of 2019, where 53.7% of general occupancy was registered during the days of this long weekend.

It is expected that 1,216,000 more national tourists will stay in another form of lodging, such as visiting family and friends, as well as in second homes; and it is also estimated that 132,000 tourists, both domestic and foreign, stay in shared economy accommodations.
