10 men beat gay couple at restaurant in Mexico City’s upscale neighborhood of Polanco (Video)

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City ( FGJCDMX ) opened an investigation into the alleged homophobic assault on a gay couple at a restaurant in the upscale neighborhood of Polanco.

Through a video, the Twitter user, Chef Luis Ramos, pointed out that 10 men beat one of the victims until they fractured his foot just because he was gay; this, outside the La Casa del Pastor Masaryk restaurant, in the Polanco neighborhood of the capital.

Given this, the capital’s justice department, in coordination with the Investigative Police ( PDI ), began the investigations to locate the victim, witnesses to the act, and the possible aggressors who carried out the assault.

The Prosecutor’s Office urged the victim to file a complaint with the authorities in order to provide legal advice and psychological support. Until now, the victim seen in the video has not filed any police report for the assault.

In the video clip, a man can be seen lying on the floor, face down, without moving, and with his head on one side. This, while three other subjects (possible aggressors) are seen leaving the scene.

A visibly desperate witness to the assault shouted for people to take videos of the aggressor’s face as they were leaving the restaurant: “They broke his foot! They broke his foot!” Seconds later, a woman rebukes them and questions them: “What’s the matter with you guys ?”

Although the restaurant was full, no one helped the victims during the attack and at the end of the video, you can see one man paying for his meal by credit card and leaving quickly with the aggressors, as the staff did nothing except allow the aggressors to pay and leave after beating a man in their establishment.

Finally, the aggressors walk away as if nothing happened and left the restaurant.

Friends of the victim in the video also say that his partner was also beaten but he does not appear in the video posted on social networks.

The attack was condemned by the mayor, Mauricio Tabe Echartea, who claimed to have contacted the victim and promised to continue the investigation in collaboration with the police and the Prosecutor’s Office. The mayor pointed to the aggression as homophobic violence.

“I categorically reject the homophobic violence suffered by a couple of diners early today at La Casa del Pastor.”
