PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – The state of Jalisco, home to tourism hotspots such as Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Costalegre, Chapala, and San Juan de los Lagos, experienced an impressive boom in the first half of 2023, according to data released by the Jalisco Secretary of Tourism. The stats revealed that close to 17 million visitors flocked to these destinations, contributing to an economic benefit of 40 billion pesos.
Puerto Vallarta emerged as a frontrunner among these destinations, with over three million tourists visiting the beach hotspot from January to June this year. It generated an economic inflow of 22 billion pesos, constituting 55 percent of the total economic benefit accrued in Jalisco.
The tourism influx within Jalisco reflects a significant growth trajectory, with a 27% increase compared to 2019 and a 10% rise compared to 2022. This boom was particularly notable in Puerto Vallarta, witnessing a visitor influx increase of 46.49% compared to 2019 and a 7.94% increase from the previous year.
The economic gains derived from Puerto Vallarta also reflected a similarly positive trend. The beach destination recorded a fiscal boost of 33% compared to 2019, along with a 5% increase compared to 2022. Puerto Vallarta further boasted a hotel occupancy rate of 77%, up by 3% from last year’s records.
These statistics validate the continuous growth and popularity of Jalisco’s destinations, with Puerto Vallarta leading the charge. The robust tourism performance underlines the successful recovery and growth of the sector, more so in the wake of the global challenges faced in recent years.
As Jalisco continues to establish itself as a favored tourist destination, it is anticipated that the remainder of 2023 will continue to witness an upward trend, generating further economic benefits and increasing visitor numbers across the state.
