PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) —As the calendar flips to October, Puerto Vallarta is bracing for its annual influx of tourists that heralds the beginning of the high season for the coastal resort town. According to Alejandro Torres Magaña, manager of the Puerto Vallarta Hotel and Motel Association, hotel occupancy rates are expected to trend upward from October through the first third of next year.
More Robust Off-Season Performance This Year
Although September is traditionally a low month for hotel occupancy, the figures have defied expectations this year. Torres Magaña noted that this September saw occupancy rates averaging between 40 and 50 percent. “Considering that occupancy rates typically plummet to 20 or 30 percent during this time, this is an encouraging sign,” he said.
Domestic and Foreign Tourist Arrivals
The manager further pointed out that October brings an uptick in foreign and domestic tourists. “The Bajío market is particularly active this time of the year, enhancing the domestic tourist numbers,” Torres Magaña elaborated. By the end of the month, various events are planned that are expected to boost hotel occupancy rates further.
Repetitive Tourism: An Asset for Puerto Vallarta
Torres Magaña also highlighted the phenomenon of repetitive tourism in Puerto Vallarta, mainly from Canada and the United States. According to him, Canadian Thanksgiving, which falls on the 9th of October this year, and American Thanksgiving, to be celebrated on November 23rd, play a significant role in attracting return tourists.
“Tourists who have experienced what Puerto Vallarta has to offer tend to return year after year,” he said. “This is especially true for Canadian and American visitors, and we are optimistic that this trend will continue this high season.”
Looking Ahead to a Promising Season
With favorable off-season statistics and the onset of several events and festivities, Puerto Vallarta’s hospitality sector is poised for a robust end-of-year performance. “October is indeed a very good month for us,” Torres Magaña concluded. “We’re embarking on this high season with momentum and are hopeful for what the upcoming months will bring.”
