Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — The Vallartense Institute of Culture has officially announced the dates for the much-anticipated Living Catrina Contest, an event celebrating artistic talent, stage performance, and the creative intricacies of costumes and makeup. The contest will span multiple days and various venues in the region, with participation open to all interested individuals.
Aspiring participants must submit several pieces of information for eligibility applicable for all the venues. The required documents include the contestant’s full name, a copy of their INE (Mexican voter ID), contact cell phone number, and the chosen name for their Catrina character. If the contestant is a minor, a letter of authorization along with the INE of the tutor or guardian must be presented. Registration for the event will be conducted at the Vallartense Institute of Culture.
The contest is poised to be a celebration of artistic flair and cultural traditions, as it will judge participants based on their artistic talent, stage performance, as well as the originality and creativity of their costumes and makeup.
Venue-Specific Information
- El Pitillal: Registration for this venue is open until October 24, with no associated costs for entering the contest. The event is scheduled for October 29, 8:00 p.m., at the main square of the El Pitillal delegation. Participants are expected to be “dressed to the nines” in their chosen outfits and makeup.
- Mojoneras: The registration deadline for this venue is October 25. The contest will be held on October 30, also at 8:00 p.m., in the main square. Similar to the El Pitillal event, contestants must don an elaborate outfit and makeup.
- Ixtapa: For those interested in participating in Ixtapa, the registration will remain open until October 25. The contest will occur on October 31 at 8:00 p.m., in the main square.
- Malecon Lighthouse – Centro Puerto Vallarta: Uniquely, the registration for this venue had an earlier deadline of September 25. The event is set for November 3, starting at 7:45 p.m., in the main square.
