From March 2 to 6, 2024, Puerto Vallarta was the proud host of the 45th MEXORC Sailing Regatta. The event unfolded in the scenic Banderas Bay, with the Marina Vallarta acting as the hub for the array of participating vessels. This year’s regatta was backed by notable organizations such as the San Diego Yacht Club, PV RACE 2024, and the Acapulco Yacht Club, while the Offshore Racing Rules (ORR) were used to classify the boats.
A fleet of twenty vessels entered the competition, segmented into three distinct classes based on their ORR ratings and the possibility of forming competitive groups. The proceedings kicked off on March 2 with a ceremonial opening and a meeting for the skippers, succeeded by the inaugural races and a welcoming cocktail event for the attendees.
On March 3, competitors took part in two additional races, enhancing the competitive spirit. The regatta’s schedule on March 4 included an exciting race around the Marietas Islands, with two more races conducted within the bay on March 5. The event wrapped up on March 6 with an engaging chase race in the vicinity of Marina Vallarta.
Luis Villaseñor, the director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion Office, shared his views on the regatta’s importance: “The MEXORC regatta underlines Puerto Vallarta’s appeal as a top sporting locale, presenting a high-caliber sailing competition for participants while showcasing the best of the Mexican Pacific as a premier tourist spot.”
