This year, the festival not only heralds the new season but also pays a heartfelt tribute to the illustrious career of the renowned guitarist Willow Brizio, recognized for his pivotal role in the jazz scene first in Guadalajara and subsequently in Puerto Vallarta.
The announcement was made during a press conference led by Brizio’s spouse, Beverly Moore, a distinguished jazz vocalist in the city. She was accompanied by Alex Martínez Gil, a fellow musician and a pioneer of the festival, and Oscar Carlos Vázquez, the operational director of Cuates y Cuetes, the festival’s official venue. The trio shared details about the event and its significance with the media.
Scheduled from March 18 to 22, the festival promises five days brimming with the rich sounds of jazz. The event showcases a diverse lineup of musicians hailing from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Los Cabos, as well as international artists from the United States and Canada, alongside the finest local talent from Vallarta. This year’s festival has been extended to accommodate the large number of participating musicians, offering attendees an average of five distinct bands each day. The evenings will culminate in a grand improvisational session where all the artists come together.
A highlight of the festival, and a longstanding tradition, is the grand concert scheduled for March 21 at 2:00 pm on the scenic beach beside the iconic Los Muertos pier. As the sun sets, the festival will embrace the new season with a pre-Hispanic dance ritual and an energy cleansing ceremony, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to refresh their spirits with the advent of spring.
