Mascota, Jalisco – Military personnel in the western mountains of Jalisco have successfully located and dismantled a marijuana plantation of approximately 40,000 plants, according to military officials from the 41st Military Zone based in Puerto Vallarta. The operation, carried out in a rural area near Mascota, underscores the military’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug cultivation in the region.
The plantation, discovered during a reconnaissance mission, was situated on a hill roughly three to four kilometers from Mascota. Covering an estimated area of 10,000 square meters, or one hectare, the plants reached an average height of two meters, indicating significant growth before detection. Military officials quickly acted to secure the area, destroy the plants, and incinerate the crop, a standard procedure in drug eradication efforts.
Authorities believe that the remote location and the size of the plantation suggest it may have been operating undetected for some time. Following protocol, the military team reported their findings and subsequent actions to both the military and federal authorities. However, no arrests were made, as there were no individuals present at the scene.
Drug eradication efforts in Mexico continue to be a critical component of military and law enforcement operations, particularly in mountainous regions like Mascota, where secluded landscapes often conceal large-scale plantations. This latest action by the Mexican Army reflects an ongoing commitment to disrupt drug-related activities that impact local communities and contribute to larger organized crime operations within the country.
