PUERTO VALLARTA—A 50-ton concrete beam fell from a tractor-trailer this morning just as it approached the 41st Military Zone in Puerto Vallarta. Officials on the scene have begun work to demolish the damaged beam, a process that is expected to take between three and five hours.
Local authorities report that the incident caused a severe backup on Federal Highway 200. The line of vehicles entering Puerto Vallarta already extends to the town of Tondoroque, in Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit. Motorists are advised to use the alternate route through the Guayabo Pass, which connects San José del Valle with Ixtapa, to avoid the lengthy traffic jam.
The highway closure has also affected ground transportation logistics heading to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Public transportation routes, personnel transport, and the regional supply chain have all experienced significant disruptions as a result of the accident.
Authorities have not yet issued an estimate on when normal traffic flow will resume. Motorists traveling to or from the region should plan ahead, expect delays, and allow extra time for travel. Meanwhile, engineering teams remain on-site, carefully demolishing and clearing the fallen beam to ensure the roadway can reopen safely.
