Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection and Firefighters cleared a street in Centro de Ixtapa on Tuesday, June 9, after rain knocked down an avocado tree that damaged CFE power lines and blocked traffic.
The tree fell at Allende and Josefa Ortiz streets, Protección Civil y Bomberos said. Local reports put its height at about six meters and its width at three meters.
Crews found the tree across the road and tangled with electrical cables. They worked with CFE before cutting and removing it, then reopened the street.
Road blocked in Centro de Ixtapa
The call came during Tuesday afternoon’s rain, which also caused flooding, runoff, and slow traffic in several parts of Puerto Vallarta. A separate citywide rain report noted trouble around Laguna de Tomasa, La Paloma, Ramblases, El Progreso, and Federal 200.
In Ixtapa, the problem was not only the blocked road. The fallen tree also brought damaged power lines down to street level, where people may try to pass before crews arrive.
No injuries were listed in the reports reviewed. The road was cleared after cutting and removal work, leaving the area safe for traffic.
Downed wires remain the danger after rain
Civil Protection warned people not to approach fallen or damaged wires. CFE guidance says people should keep at least 2.5 meters from electrical lines and report dangerous conditions through official channels, including 071.
CFE also lists its electricity service reporting page for power failures. For immediate danger in the street, 911 remains the emergency number.
