Laguna Region Civil Protection Coordination of Coahuila Donates Equipment to Matamoros Fire Department

Learn how the Laguna Region Civil Protection Coordination delivered key Matamoros firefighters equipment to boost safety and rescue efforts with ten PPE sets and four breathing apparatuses—ensuring faster, safer responses with Matamoros firefighters equipment.

The Laguna Region Civil Protection Coordination of Coahuila strengthened the Heroic Fire Department of Matamoros this week by delivering ten full sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) and four self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA). Coordinator Claudia González Díaz said the new gear will reinforce rescue efforts and safeguard firefighters as they face increasingly complex emergencies.

González Díaz highlighted the teamwork behind the donation. “Esto viene a fortalecer la coordinación del estado con el municipio para que los cuerpos de emergencia de nuestro estado estén mejor equipados y puedan desarrollar su trabajo de una manera más segura,” she said. By linking state resources directly with Matamoros’ first responders, the coordination accelerates equipment delivery and boosts frontline safety.

In a joint effort, the Heroic Fire Department of San Pedro also contributed personal gear for Matamoros’ rescuers through Fundación 911. That partnership underscores growing unity among municipal brigades and nonprofit backers. According to González Díaz, each donated item reflects the shared commitment of Governor Manolo Jiménez and local leadership to protect communities.

The ten PPE sets include helmets with face shields, flame-resistant jackets and pants, gloves, and boots—everything needed for rescue teams to operate in high-risk environments. The SCBAs will let crews enter smoke-filled buildings or hazardous atmospheres with confidence, expanding their capacity to perform timely interventions.

Beyond Matamoros, the Laguna Region Civil Protection Coordination plans more deliveries in the coming days. Teams will visit the Magic Town of Viesca to hand over equipment to both civil protection staff and its fire department. González Díaz noted that these successive donations will cover gaps in rural and urban areas, ensuring consistent levels of protection across Coahuila’s Laguna Region.

The region’s fire departments regularly respond to industrial accidents, wildfires, traffic collisions, and urban emergencies. Recent incidents have tested their readiness, from chemical spills along the Nazas River to residential fires in Matamoros’ growing neighborhoods. By equipping crews with up-to-date gear, authorities aim to reduce response times and limit risks to both firefighters and the public.

Local firefighters welcomed the reinforcement. Captain Luis Herrera of Matamoros’ brigade said the new SCBAs will be a game-changer when tackling confined-space rescues and structural collapses. “Having reliable breathing gear gives us the confidence to push deeper into dangerous areas and save more lives,” he said.

Governor Jiménez, who has prioritized emergency preparedness since taking office, applauded the coordinated effort. In a statement, he praised Claudia González Díaz for mobilizing resources quickly and urged other regions to follow suit. “Our firefighters are our first shield in a crisis. Equipping them is not optional—it’s essential,” he said.

As Mexico faces more frequent climate-driven disasters and urban growth challenges, strengthening civil protection networks has become a top priority. Coahuila’s model—combining state coordination, municipal action, and nonprofit support—demonstrates how targeted investments in equipment can translate into safer communities.

Residents of Matamoros and surrounding towns can expect smoother, faster emergency responses thanks to this influx of PPE and breathing apparatuses. With more deliveries en route to Viesca and beyond, the Laguna Region Civil Protection Coordination is setting a new standard for readiness and interagency cooperation in northern Mexico.
