Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 20, 2026 – Las Palmas has begun the countdown to its annual Paseadas after dozens of riders and a live band traveled Sunday morning from the center of the rural delegation to the Llano de la Palma Sola, where thousands of people are expected to gather on July 26.
The pre-Paseadas horseback procession was led by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González and included representatives of the local cattle association, charro community, parish and Las Palmas ejido. The ride served as the public opening of a week built around one of Puerto Vallarta’s oldest rural celebrations.
The main Paseadas gathering is scheduled next Sunday at the Llano de la Palma Sola, a field between Las Palmas and Tebelchía north of the city. Families traditionally arrive with food and spend much of the day listening to regional music, dancing and riding horses across the grounds.
City departments and community organizers had already met at the site on July 17 to review security, mobility and event logistics. The meeting included Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection and Fire Department, the municipal police, rural coordination staff, the Las Palmas delegation, the ejido and other city offices.
The notices published so far do not provide an opening time, a music lineup, a parking plan, or detailed road controls. They also do not confirm whether this year will repeat the entry rules used in earlier editions. A 2024 security operation placed checkpoints at access points, barred glass containers and weapons, and scheduled traffic officers through the end of the gathering.
Paseadas draw people from communities across Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, placing a large one-day crowd on rural roads and a field that can be affected by July rain. Organizers have said thousands are expected this year, but they have not released a formal attendance estimate.
Local accounts trace the celebration to 1931, when Hilaria Pineda organized an early outing at Palma Sola. Participants initially reached the field on foot or by burro. Horses and vehicles became more common as the gathering grew, while the central idea remained a shared country picnic tied to July 26 and the feast day of Santa Ana.
The event was suspended during the pandemic and returned in 2022. Its revival reinforced the role of Las Palmas and its ejido in preserving a tradition that developed outside Puerto Vallarta’s tourism districts and has remained rooted in the municipality’s rural communities.
