Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 22, 2026 — Mexican Army personnel seized three vehicles, ammunition magazines, cartridges and tactical gear Tuesday during a large operation in Puerto Vallarta’s rural corridor toward Las Palmas. No injuries were reported, and no arrests had been announced by early Wednesday.
The first confirmed details emerged at about 3.19 p.m., when military personnel said they had two vehicles in sight with cartridges inside. A nearby house prompted a request to Jalisco state security personnel to inspect the property and surrounding land with a drone. By 4.17 p.m., the seizure had expanded to two Nissan Frontier pickups and a Jeep, with ammunition and tactical equipment visible inside. Authorities had not disclosed calibers, quantities, vehicle ownership or whether any firearms were recovered. The initial local report and a second account of the seizure carried the same basic vehicle details.
Local accounts initially described a possible armed confrontation near Las Palmas as convoys, tactical vehicles, ambulances and military aircraft moved through the northern side of the municipality. That claim remains unconfirmed. Reporting available Wednesday morning documented the seizure and the deployment, but it did not establish that shots were exchanged, that anyone was wounded or that suspects were detained.
Army and National Guard units had deployed around Ecoterra on July 18 after reports of armed people in that area. No official statement has connected that deployment with Tuesday’s seizure. State police also arrested two men in Las Palmas de Arriba on July 9 after a canine unit located a loaded 9-millimeter handgun hidden inside a vehicle carrying license plates assigned to another unit.
The wider corridor has been under scrutiny since a March 31 operation in Las Palmas de Arriba and Ixtapa. Ten investigative orders led to six arrests and the seizure of four properties, two firearms, 30 grenades, about 700 doses of suspected methamphetamine, two vehicles and three motorcycles. Vallarta Daily reported those results in April. Nothing released so far ties Tuesday’s vehicles or ammunition to that earlier case.
The timing has an immediate community dimension because Las Palmas Paseadas week is underway. The main gathering is scheduled Sunday, July 26, at Palma Sola, with thousands expected. No public cancellation, route change, or schedule adjustment had been announced by early Wednesday. Municipal planning already included security, traffic and emergency coordination.
The main unanswered questions are the quantity and caliber of the cartridges, whether the vehicles carry theft reports, the exact tactical items recovered, whether any weapons were found, and which prosecutor received the evidence. Until an official inventory is released, claims about who owned the vehicles or why they were at the property remain unverified.
