Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 18, 2026 – Traffic is expected to return Friday to Avenida Prisciliano Sánchez near El Capricho, ending two weeks of disruption after emergency sewer work closed part of one of Puerto Vallarta’s busiest east-west corridors.
The reopening is scheduled for Friday, June 19, during the day. Crews finished the reconstruction work after allowing the new hydraulic concrete placed on Wednesday morning to cure before vehicles returned to the pavement.
The road is not expected to reopen at midnight or at a fixed hour. The affected stretch should return to service once SEAPAL and traffic crews remove the final protections and confirm the concrete is ready for vehicle weight.
The closure followed the collapse of part of the Centro-Norte Collector, a major sanitary line in Puerto Vallarta’s wastewater system. The problem created a sinkhole near Avenida Prisciliano Sánchez and Avenida México, in the area of El Capricho and Fluvial Vallarta, and forced temporary traffic changes while repair crews worked underground.
SEAPAL’s traffic plan had closed lanes on Prisciliano Sánchez in the east-west direction, while opposite lanes toward El Pitillal operated with two-way traffic. Avenida México also had temporary changes in the south-north lanes during the emergency work.
This was more than a surface repair. SEAPAL’s public works registry identifies the project as emergency work to remove a collapse and blockage in a 60-inch section of the Centro-Norte Collector at Prisciliano Sánchez and Avenida México.
The repair moved in stages. First came the emergency response, including suction-pressure equipment and machinery. Then came stabilization of the sanitary system, cleanup and preparation of the damaged section, and construction work more than six meters underground. SEAPAL said the site also required protection for a 24-inch main potable water line near the work area.
That explains why the road remained restricted after the first emergency work ended. The sewer line had to be stabilized before crews could rebuild the damaged point and restore the avenue above it.
The Centro-Norte Collector has become a recurring infrastructure concern for Puerto Vallarta. SEAPAL has described it as the “columna vertebral” of the city’s wastewater system, running from the Conchas Chinas area north toward treatment infrastructure in Las Mojoneras and Las Juntas.
In late 2024, SEAPAL said the Centro-Norte Collector and the North II Treatment Plant required more than one billion pesos in urgent rehabilitation, including an estimated 450 million pesos for the collector itself. The agency also identified Prisciliano Sánchez and Avenida México among the difficult, high-traffic points where work remained pending.
For now, the immediate impact is simpler. Drivers who use Prisciliano Sánchez to move between the Avenida México area, El Pitillal, Fluvial, and nearby neighborhoods should see normal circulation return on Friday, barring a final delay at the worksite.
Until the barriers and signs are removed, drivers should still treat the area as an active work zone. The last step in a sewer repair is often the one everyone notices most: giving the street back without damaging the work beneath it.
