PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – “The cleanliness of a city is not solely the responsibility of the governing authorities but also the inhabitants,” remarked Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, the mayor of Puerto Vallarta, as he beckoned locals to collaborate in ensuring the city remains pristine and secure, appealing both to national and international visitors.
This call to action was made by Professor Michel over the weekend during the ‘Saturdays for Transformation’ initiative in the Agua Azul neighborhood. It’s become routine to witness personnel from various departments of the City Council and municipal organizations congregating for this event. Together with residents, they engage in numerous activities ranging from cleaning and tree pruning to road repairs, upgrading public spaces, and enhancing lighting facilities. This initiative also serves as a platform to address citizen grievances.
Among those in attendance were Augusto Alcaraz Valencia, the Cabinet coordinator; María López Bejarano, president of the lower part of the Agua Azul neighborhood; Hortensia Rodríguez, and Oscar Silva, secretary and member of the neighborhood committee, respectively. Michel expressed his contentment in witnessing City Council members volunteer on their day off to contribute towards the city’s betterment.
Shining a light on tourism’s significance, Professor Michel elucidated how the influx of tourists spurs revenue for various sectors, starting from their hotel check-ins. This underscores the importance of having a spotless and safe environment conducive to investments and benefitting its industrious inhabitants.
“It’s our collective strength that tourists see Vallarta as a clean and safe destination endowed with amenities. Our natural beauty, encompassing the sea, beaches, and mountains, is why we continue to lead in hotel occupancy at the national level,” emphasized Prof Michel.
He further encouraged all locals to participate in the cleanliness drive actively. “If every resident contributes, we can retain our status as a top destination. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility, and everyone needs to play their part,” he stressed.
Echoing the mayor’s appeal, many residents actively partook in the initiative. Representatives from City Hall departments and municipal organizations like the DIF System, SEAPAL Vallarta, COMUDE, IVC, and IMAJ were present. Also joining the efforts were members from the Civil Protection and Firefighters unit, Citizen Security, and the Group of United Drivers of Private Transportation of Puerto Vallarta.
Representing the residents, Mrs. María López Bejarano expressed her gratitude to Professor Michel for his unwavering support and collaborative approach towards addressing the pressing needs of the colony.
