Mazatlán has welcomed 227,138 cruise passengers aboard 62 vessels between January 1 and July 14, 2025, driving a significant economic lift for the port city. Sinaloa’s Secretary of Tourism, Mireya Sosa Osuna, emphasized that the state government, led by Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, continues to position tourism—particularly Mazatlán cruise tourism—as a central engine of local development.

Passenger traffic peaked in March when 15 cruise ships docked, disembarking 57,579 visitors and contributing 92,126,400 pesos to the regional economy. January followed closely with 48,351 passengers on 13 vessels, yielding 69,625,440 pesos. February arrivals numbered eight ships with 31,943 passengers generating 51,108,800 pesos, while April’s 12 ship visits brought in 40,779 passengers and 65,246,400 pesos in revenue.

“The governor has asked us to make tourism an engine of development for the state,” Sosa Osuna said, noting SECTUR’s active role in courting international cruise lines and ensuring visitors enjoy memorable experiences ashore.

May saw eight vessels carry 21,958 passengers, adding 35,132,800 pesos. In June, the number of ship calls dipped to three, with 13,768 passengers and a resulting 22,028,800 pesos. Early July figures (through the 14th) show three arrivals bringing 12,760 passengers and an estimated economic impact of 20,416,000 pesos.

Carnival Panorama is scheduled to dock on July 23, closing out the month with four ship calls and extending the momentum of Mazatlán cruise tourism through mid‑summer.

Monthly Breakdown of Cruise Arrivals and Impact

  • January: 13 vessels; 48,351 passengers; 69.6 million pesos
  • February: 8 vessels; 31,943 passengers; 51.1 million pesos
  • March: 15 vessels; 57,579 passengers; 92.1 million pesos
  • April: 12 vessels; 40,779 passengers; 65.2 million pesos
  • May: 8 vessels; 21,958 passengers; 35.1 million pesos
  • June: 3 vessels; 13,768 passengers; 22.0 million pesos
  • July 1–14: 3 vessels; 12,760 passengers; 20.4 million pesos

Despite a mid‑year dip in ship calls, SECTUR projects steady growth through the winter cruise season. Enhanced security measures, 24‑hour pre‑hospital care teams and reinforced nighttime staffing at the downtown, beach and Marina points keep visitors safe and comfortable ashore.

Local businesses—from waterfront restaurants to artisanal shops—report that each cruise passenger spends an average of 1,567 pesos per visit on tours, dining and retail. That figure underlines why Mazatlán cruise tourism has become a key pillar of Sinaloa’s broader tourism strategy.

By diversifying its cruise offerings and promoting off‑peak events, Mazatlán aims to smooth out seasonal swings and ensure year‑round benefits for local vendors and service providers. SECTUR is in talks with Carnival, Royal Caribbean and other major lines to add new itineraries and themed voyages calling on the city’s historic center, aquarium and golden‑sand beaches.

With Governor Rocha Moya’s endorsement and SECTUR’s active outreach, Mazatlán cruise tourism shows no signs of slowing. As Carnival Panorama’s July 23 arrival marks the close of the first half of the year, local officials are already planning festivals and cultural showcases timed to future ship calls. Sustained collaboration between port authorities, tour operators and municipal services promises to keep cruise passengers coming—and spending—well into 2026.
