The Mexican Red Cross in Mazatlán has rolled out a dedicated pre‑hospital care operation Mazatlán to serve tourists and locals throughout the holiday period. Teams are deployed across three key zones—downtown, the beaches, and the Marina—working in two shifts around the clock. On nights and weekends, staffing is further reinforced.

Abimelec Gómez Sánchez, coordinator of the lifeguard unit, stressed that resources are focused where visitor levels peak. “We’ll operate equally at all three locations—downtown, the beaches, and the Marina—throughout the day, with special attention on the tourist hub at the Marina,” he said.

Weekday coverage splits personnel between the Centro Histórico and the main beaches in two shifts. Weekend operations add a night‑shift station at the Marina, ensuring full coverage during Mazatlán’s busiest hours. “At night, we run two shifts on weekdays covering downtown and the beaches. On weekends, we also activate the Marina point after dark,” Gómez Sánchez explained.

This constant presence aims to slash response times for medical emergencies or accidents in high‑traffic areas. Quick intervention can be lifesaving in water‑related incidents or sudden health crises along the malecón.

Operation highlights:

  • Downtown: First responders patrol plazas and streets, ready to assist tourists and residents.
  • Beaches: Lifeguard teams monitor swimmers and administer on‑site first aid.
  • Marina: Day and night shifts provide rapid response to boating or waterfront emergencies.

The Cruz Roja team maintains flexibility to adjust staffing based on real‑time visitor counts and operational demands. “We’ll keep coverage throughout the holiday season but can reassign teams if one zone sees a surge in visitors,” noted Gómez Sánchez.

By combining 24/7 staffing with strategic night and weekend reinforcements, the Mexican Red Cross aims to uphold safety standards during Mazatlán’s peak vacation period. This proactive approach underscores their commitment to prompt medical care and accident prevention in one of Mexico’s top coastal destinations.
