The planned reopening of Chichén Itzá did not take place after talks among authorities, artisans, and guides broke down again. The archaeological zone, one of Yucatán’s busiest tourist sites, is now closed until further notice while both sides remain at odds over commercial spaces tied to the old parador and the newer visitor center. The dispute has moved through several days of closures, statements, and negotiations, leaving visitors and tour operators watching closely for a new agreement.
