American Paul Jonathan Brown and Founder of ‘Barking of Hope’ missing in SLP

Villa Juárez, SLP – State Attorney General María Manuela García Cázares confirmed that a wanted report has been issued after the disappearance of American citizen Paul Jonathan Brown. He was the founder of the dog shelter Barking of Hope. The report came after one of Brown’s employees went to the Prosecutor’s Office on July 25. They alerted authorities that he had not been seen for several days. Unusual signs were present at the shelter’s property in the municipality of Villa Juárez.

According to García Cázares, officials only learned of Brown’s absence on the previous Friday when the shelter worker filed the report. A search report was immediately generated. The investigation opened, she said. Brown, described in social media posts as a 72-year-old American, dedicated much of his life to rescuing and sheltering homeless dogs. He ran Barking of Hope with a small team of staff who became alarmed when they noticed his prolonged absence.

Community concern grows over Paul Jonathan Brown missing

The initial alert also included other worrying details: one of the shelter’s trucks was missing from Brown’s home. Additionally, several of the dogs were found loose. Authorities say they have the vehicle description and are actively following leads to locate it and determine its whereabouts. The loss of the truck, a critical asset for operations at the shelter, and the unsecured animals heightened anxiety among staff and the local animal rights community.

García Cázares addressed online rumors suggesting Brown had been kidnapped. She said those claims could not be confirmed at this stage. “Simply, for now, it is known that he has not been at home for several days. That is why the wanted report was issued,” she clarified. She emphasized that the investigation is still in its early phase. Authorities are gathering facts rather than accepting speculation.

Investigation intensifies in Villa Juárez as search expands

The case has drawn public attention because of Brown’s long-standing work with stray and abandoned dogs. Posts circulating on Facebook and Instagram highlighted his commitment to animal welfare. They framed him as a respected figure among local advocates. That visibility has translated into vocal concern from the state’s animal rights circle. They are urging investigators to prioritize locating him and ensuring the safety of the animals he cared for.

Authorities have not released further details about potential leads, possible motives, or whether any security footage or eyewitness accounts have been collected. The fact that Brown has not been seen for several days and key equipment is missing has left the shelter’s staff scrambling. They are keeping operations running in his absence while cooperating with investigators.

Missing American drives local advocacy into overdrive

Animal rights groups are also watching closely because the continuity of care for the shelter’s dogs could be jeopardized if the situation remains unresolved. Volunteers and supporters have started informal networks to account for the animals found loose. They aim to secure temporary transport while the official inquiry progresses. The shelter’s public profile—built over years through its rescue efforts—has become a double-edged sword. It ensures attention on Brown’s case but also fuels unverified narratives online.

Officials have appealed to the public for any information that could help locate both Brown and the missing truck. They are asking anyone who may have seen unusual activity around the shelter or the surrounding area in Villa Juárez. This is requested in the days leading up to the report. Anonymity for tipsters was not specifically addressed, but standard procedures for sensitive cases like disappearances typically include protections for those who cooperate.

Investigation into Paul Jonathan Brown missing

The Attorney General’s office has not yet confirmed whether Brown’s disappearance will involve broader interagency coordination, such as federal or U.S. consular notification. Because Brown is a U.S. citizen, consular officials could be notified depending on developments. This is especially true if evidence emerges that his absence involves foul play. For now, the public is left waiting for a breakthrough in the search while shelter staff manage the fallout.

Investigators say updates will be provided as they are confirmed. Meanwhile, the animal welfare community continues to rally support and keep pressure on authorities. They want the case resolved quickly and transparently.
