Colima inaugurated two National Guard installations on August 12, one in Manzanillo and another in Armería. Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva presided alongside federal commanders during the twin ceremonies.
The new sites correspond to companies 476 and 477 of the National Guard. Officials framed them as a direct boost to on-the-ground presence in the port city and the coastal municipality. Eugenio Leonardo López Arellanes, the Guard’s West Region coordinator, joined the events.
National Guard facilities in Manzanillo and Armería
Vizcaíno called the bases “key spaces” to strengthen security and said the state will keep working with all three levels of government to protect residents and businesses. The message paired infrastructure with coordination.
State coordinator José de Jesús de Lara Ceballos said the Guard’s mission centers on crime prevention and close work with local and federal authorities. He described the openings as a concrete step toward that mission.
Commanders also noted that, with federal backing under President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, more than 500 facilities have been built across all 32 states. Local governments donated land and facilitated services so the two Colima sites could open.
Who was on hand and why that matters
The dais blended state and municipal leadership with the Guard’s regional and state commands. That mix is the point: bricks alone do little without shared protocols between patrols, civic authorities, and the port community. The mayors of Manzanillo and Armería attended, underscoring the local stake in how these posts operate.
Officials promised steady coordination and a visible presence tied to prevention tasks. The usefulness of the new posts will be measured in everyday terms: quicker responses, fewer blind spots, and clearer lines between state, municipal, and federal roles. The pledge now meets the test of practice.
