The new Guadalajara Calgary air route will operate December 7, 2025–April 12, 2026, twice weekly on WestJet, strengthening Jalisco’s appeal in Canada and boosting visitor growth.
Guadalajara, Mexico – In a bid to cement Jalisco’s status as a top Canadian travel destination, the state’s Ministry of Tourism has teamed up with WestJet to launch a Guadalajara Calgary air route. This seasonal connection, operating December 7, 2025, through April 12, 2026, will fly twice weekly—Tuesdays and Sundays—aboard a Boeing 737 seating 174 passengers.
The flight departs Guadalajara International Airport, managed by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), marking Jalisco’s fourth direct link to Canada. It slots neatly alongside existing services to Montreal, Toronto, and other key cities, reflecting robust demand from Canadian travelers.
Strengthening Canadian-Jalisco Ties
Secretary of Tourism Michelle Fridman Hirsch highlighted the significance of the new route. “We are thrilled to see the Guadalajara Calgary air route come to life,” she said. “It reinforces our cultural ties, showcases Jalisco’s vibrant destinations—from the historic streets of Guadalajara and lakeside Chapala to beach resorts like Puerto Vallarta and Costalegre—and extends our reach into Canada’s dynamic market.”
According to government figures, more than 775,000 annual seats now link Jalisco with Canada across 17 airports, served by airlines including Air Transat, Air Canada, Flair, and soon Porter from Puerto Vallarta. This expansion follows Air Transat’s December launch of Montreal–Guadalajara and Air Canada’s November debut of three weekly Toronto flights.

Tourism Impact and Local Benefits
Local hoteliers and tour operators anticipate a surge in winter bookings. The new route aligns with Jalisco’s high season, when cultural festivals, tequila tours, and gastronomy events attract international visitors. Tourism Secretary Fridman Hirsch pointed out that the expanded connectivity will also boost cargo traffic, benefiting regional producers and exporters.
Economic analysts predict this route could deliver a double-digit increase in Canadian arrivals compared to the previous winter, further diversifying Jalisco’s visitor profile. The added flights are expected to support local jobs in hospitality, transport, and services, reinforcing tourism’s role as a key economic driver.
As Jalisco continues to invest in its airport infrastructure and promote its “Magical Towns,” officials view the Guadalajara Calgary air route as a model for targeted international marketing. Increased air access dovetails with broader efforts to showcase Jalisco’s colonial heritage, innovative tech sector, and natural attractions.
With these developments, Canadian travelers have more reasons than ever to plan a trip to Jalisco. From urban festivals in Guadalajara to the shores of Lake Chapala and the vibrant nightlife of Puerto Vallarta, the state stands ready to welcome guests on this new seasonal service.
