Peso Report: USD/MXN Rate Today Peso Trades Near 17.52 After Banxico

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 26, 2026 – The U.S. dollar traded at 17.5174 pesos in early Friday foreign-exchange trading, according to a real-time USD/MXN quote at 6:12:55 a.m. Mexico City time.

The move left the dollar up about 0.17% from the previous close of 17.4880, meaning the peso was slightly weaker in the early session. The pair had moved in a narrow morning range between 17.4850 and 17.5589.

For readers in Puerto Vallarta who earn in dollars and spend in pesos, the morning level was a modest improvement from the prior close. Actual bank, ATM, exchange house, and transfer service rates will differ from the market quote due to spreads and fees.

Peso opens slightly weaker after Banxico pause

Mexico’s currency opened Friday with traders still digesting Banco de México’s decision to hold its benchmark interest rate at 6.50%. In its June 25 monetary policy statement, Banxico said its Governing Board voted unanimously to maintain the overnight interbank rate.

The central bank noted that the peso had depreciated since its previous decision, while Mexico’s inflation picture had improved. Banxico also said it expects the current rate level to remain appropriate, while keeping a cautious tone on inflation risks.

The latest official FIX reference available before publication was 17.5260 pesos per dollar for June 25, according to Banxico-linked data. That is separate from the real-time market quote and is published once per banking day around midday.

Inflation data gives Banxico room but not certainty

Mexico’s latest inflation report helped shape Friday’s peso backdrop. The INEGI inflation release showed annual headline inflation at 3.55% in the first half of June, down from recent readings and closer to Banxico’s target range.

Core inflation remained elevated at 4.12%, keeping pressure on the central bank to avoid declaring victory too early. For households and retirees in Puerto Vallarta, the distinction matters: headline inflation may look calmer, while services, rents, restaurant prices, medical costs, and travel-related expenses can still feel sticky in local budgets.

Banxico also pointed to external risks, including possible changes in U.S. economic policy and geopolitical pressures. Those factors can affect the peso even when domestic inflation is improving.

U.S. dollar and oil add to the morning mix

The broader dollar backdrop was softer on Friday. A Reuters currency report said the dollar slipped against most major currencies as U.S. rate-hike expectations eased slightly after recent data and oil prices moved lower.

U.S. inflation data remained important for the peso. A separate Reuters report on U.S. data said the May PCE price index rose 4.1% from a year earlier, matching forecasts, while weekly jobless claims fell to 215,000. The numbers eased near-term pressure on Fed expectations but did not rule out the possibility of tighter U.S. policy later this year.

Oil was also part of the market tone, with crude prices down more than 3% Friday. Lower oil can ease some global inflation concerns, though the peso does not move one-for-one with crude.

Budgeting with a moving rate

At the early Friday market rate, $100 USD equaled about 1,752 pesos before bank spreads, ATM charges, card-network conversions, or transfer fees.

For Puerto Vallarta residents, homeowners, and frequent visitors, the practical point is that the peso remained well inside its recent range. A move of a few centavos can matter on rent, HOA fees, construction payments, tuition, medical bills, or large transfers, but it is not the same as a major currency break.

This report is for a daily budgeting context, not investment advice. The exchange rate can change throughout the session, especially when U.S. data, Fed expectations, Banxico commentary, oil prices, or trade headlines shift market sentiment.
