Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Sept. 25, 2026 — Yellow flags warned swimmers at several city beaches Friday as surf associated with Hurricane Polo reached the coast.
Yellow means enter the water with caution; red means stay out, according to a municipal lifeguard report.
A Thursday update citing state authorities described beaches as open under yellow flags. An earlier beach-by-beach report listed red flags in three areas.

The Sept. 22 lifeguard report listed yellow flags at Los Muertos and Olas Altas in the Romantic Zone, as well as Conchas Chinas, Palmares, Burros, Camarones Norte, Camarones Sur and Playa de Oro.
That same report listed red and purple flags at the mouths of the Cuale and Pitillal rivers and in Marina Vallarta. Purple warned of wildlife in those areas. The list is dated Tuesday; beachgoers should follow the flag and lifeguard instructions posted at their location Friday.
In its late-Thursday advisory, the National Hurricane Center said Polo was moving west, away from southwestern Mexico. It warned that swells along affected stretches of coast were “likely to cause life-threatening surf, rip currents, and coastal flooding.”
Puerto Vallarta’s Civil Protection department also warned that higher surf and tides could affect the city’s shoreline from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday. Our earlier report on that warning covers the expected timing.
