A 65-year-old man has died following a late-night swim at Playa del Holi on Thursday, November 5th according to a local news report.
The man from Guanajuato went into the water around 11.40 p.m. with some colleagues. The currents took him out to sea, and his friends lost him in the dark.
His coworkers finally brought him ashore; he was unresponsive, and they called 911. The FD paramedics did CPR but were unable to revive him, as per the report.
Municipal police cordoned off the area, and investigators and forensic staff arrived. The body was taken away for an autopsy.
Playa del Holi lies in Puerto Vallarta’s northern Hotel Zone, beside the mouth of the Pitillal RiverCoordinación General de Comunicación Social, and has seen previous swimming emergencies.
Vallarta Daily reported in August 2021 that a 15-year-old was swept out to sea during another nighttime incident. In October 2024, 16-year-old Luis Arnulfo disappeared at the same beach after entering the water to help a young relative. That disappearance prompted days of searches involving municipal and state Civil Protection teams and the Mexican Navy.
