Puerto Vallarta’s planned Hospital Civil de la Costa is now listed among Jalisco’s eight major public works. The project carries an investment of about 1.197 billion pesos. A new state works calendar points to September as the planned start for construction.
The hospital is planned beside CUCosta in Ixtapa. It would operate as a high-specialty hospital-school tied to the University of Guadalajara and the Civil Hospitals network. The statewide infrastructure project list places it in a broader package of health, road, and transit works across Jalisco.
Earlier state and university announcements said construction would begin in 2026, but did not give a firm month. PVDN previously reported that the Civil Hospital project had moved ahead after an April presentation at CUCosta.
A hospital-school near CUCosta
The University of Guadalajara presentation stated that the Hospital Civil de la Costa would serve more than 300,000 people across nine municipalities in the Costa Sierra Occidental. It is designed as a third-level hospital. That means specialist care and training space for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
UdeG said the building would cover 35,846 square meters, with a ground floor and three upper levels. The plan includes 13 specialist units, a clinical lab, medical imaging, and areas for teaching and research.
Karla Planter Pérez, UdeG’s rector general, said the project came from a regional review of health needs, illness patterns, deaths, and local health risks. She said the goal is for “patients who cannot go to Guadalajara” to receive care in Puerto Vallarta.
María Elena González González, director general of the Civil Hospitals of Guadalajara, said the hospital would “benefit more than 300,000 people” and help solve the shortage of high-specialty care in the region.
The next signals to watch
The June project list includes the Vallarta hospital in Jalisco’s active public works pipeline. It does not provide a detailed work schedule, a contractor list, or an opening date.
Before major work begins, there should be bid documents, site preparation around CUCosta, and possible traffic or service notices near Avenida Universidad.
