Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Entronque Vallarta, part of the Vía Corta Guadalajara–Puerto Vallarta project almost completed, links Bucerías and central Puerto Vallarta in just 25 minutes, easing congestion, cutting emissions and boosting tourism connectivity.
Thanks to the Entronque Vallarta—part of the Vía Corta Guadalajara–Puerto Vallarta project—the trip between Bahía de Banderas in Nayarit and central Puerto Vallarta will be slashed to just 25 minutes, state officials announced today. The strategic 1.3-kilometer connector links the La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (Bucerías) junction directly with the Francisco Medina Ascencio boulevard, bypassing curves on Federal Highway 200 and relieving congestion along the coastal corridor.
By reducing travel distances and delays, the Entronque Vallarta is expected to benefit more than 800,000 residents and tourists, according to the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT). Official traffic studies show that the route currently handles an average of 60,000 vehicles per day; the new connector will shorten journey times, lower accident rates and reduce vehicle emissions in the corridor.
Construction of the Entronque Vallarta generated 357 direct and 1,400 indirect jobs, boosting the local economy during development, SICT head Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina said during an inspection visit. Esteva Medina described the entronque as “a key artery for the Pacific tourism corridor,” essential for maintaining the region’s competitiveness and safety.
The tie-in is the latest phase of the broader Vía Corta Guadalajara–Puerto Vallarta initiative, which includes a 26-kilometer stretch of the Tepic–Compostela highway featuring 31 structures—bridges, overpasses and crossings—that collectively transform access between Nayarit and Jalisco. Since its first segment opened in 2017, the overall project has cut travel time from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta by over two and a half hours.
Local tourism operators and freight carriers welcome the Entronque Vallarta, noting that smoother transit will enhance visitor experiences, improve logistics for goods deliveries and provide more reliable connections to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.
