Puerto Vallarta Deploys Tactical Operations Group to Bolster Holiday-Season Security

PUERTO VALLARTA, Jal. — Municipal authorities have reinforced security across Puerto Vallarta ahead of the long-weekend vacation surge, dispatching the Tactical Operations Group (GOT) to patrol the city’s busiest corridors and commercial districts. The move is part of a broader holiday-season surveillance plan designed to protect both residents and the thousands of tourists expected to arrive over the coming days.

Operational Commander José Omar Quintero Becerra ordered GOT officers to canvass high-traffic zones “both on foot and in patrol units,” concentrating on areas with dense pedestrian flow and a high concentration of businesses. Special attention is being given to bank branches to prevent robberies of customers and parked vehicles.

“Our goal is to ensure everyone who visits the city during the holiday period can do so safely and responsibly,” Quintero said in a statement announcing the deployment. Officers have been instructed to conduct continuous spot checks while adhering strictly to legal protocols and human-rights standards.

Commissioner of Citizen Security Eduardo Horacio Llanas Cuevas urged party-goers to plan ahead if they intend to drink. “Assign a driver who will not consume alcohol to avoid tragedies caused by the deadly mix of steering wheel and alcohol,” the commissioner said, noting that road accidents historically spike during festive weekends.

Authorities are also calling on the public to participate actively in crime-prevention efforts. Residents and visitors who witness suspicious activity are encouraged to dial 911 or approach the nearest police unit. “Working hand in hand with citizens is essential to maintaining a safe environment for everyone,” Llanas Cuevas added.

The GOT deployment complements existing beach, highway and nightlife patrols already in force for the Easter-to-Labor-Day vacation stretch. City officials say the layered strategy is meant to reassure tourists while safeguarding Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as one of Mexico’s premier destinations.
