Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In an event aimed at promoting health and hygiene in the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism recently recognized various hotel establishments in Puerto Vallarta by awarding them the esteemed “H” Distinctions and “Punto Limpio” quality seals. These awards are part of initiatives that underscore the importance of hygienic food handling practices, thereby bolstering the reputation of Puerto Vallarta as a premier tourist destination.
The ceremony was held at the Sheraton Buganvilias hotel, which itself was a notable recipient, securing 14 “H” Badges. The Las Palmas hotel followed with six awards, and the Joya Hospital’s nutrition department received one. Additionally, the Velas Vallarta hotel was honored with 11 “Punto Limpio” seals, marking a commendable achievement in the industry.
Dr. Paloma Castillón Rodríguez, Public Health coordinator of Health Region 8 for the Jalisco Ministry of Health, elucidated that the Distintivo “H” program targets fixed food and beverage establishments. The primary aim is to diminish foodborne illness incidence among tourists, which, in turn, enhances the country’s reputation regarding food safety. She highlighted, “The badge is awarded to establishments that adhere to the stringent hygiene standards set forth in the official regulations concerning the hygienic handling of food.”
The “Punto Limpio” Quality Seal is another prestigious acknowledgment given by the Ministry of Tourism, endorsed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare. It rewards tourism sector companies that integrate excellent hygiene practices to safeguard the health of clients, workers, and the community.
The interim mayor, Francisco José Martínez Gil, commended the dedication and hard work of these hotels. He emphasized that maintaining high-quality standards in the hotel industry is crucial for ensuring outstanding experiences for visitors to Puerto Vallarta. “These awards signify their commitment to the highest service standards and superior hygienic and sanitary conditions in the tourism industry,” Martínez Gil stated.
Furthermore, the event saw the distribution of certificates for the National Code of Conduct for the Protection of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents in the Travel and Tourism Sector (CCN) to the Sheraton Buganvilias, Krystal Vallarta, and Buenaventura Grand hotels. The CCN is a testament to the tourism industry’s voluntary commitment to safeguarding minors from sexual and labor exploitation.
The adoption of the CCN showcases the social and ethical responsibility of these establishments, reflecting their ongoing commitment to excellence and community well-being.
Distinguished guests included Jorge Quintero Alvarado, director of Puerto Vallarta Beach Tourism from the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat; Alejandro Torres Magaña, manager of the Puerto Vallarta Hotel and Motel Association; and representatives from Canaco Puerto Vallarta, Canirac Vallarta, and Coparmex, along with collaborators from renowned companies. This event marks a significant step forward in promoting a safer, healthier, and more sustainable tourism industry in Puerto Vallarta.
