In July, Valle Dorado packed the clinic, which was hosted inside a public primary school. In August, a rural community saw its first-ever clinic. This week, a growing suburb near San Vicente opened a family’s home so neighbors could line up before dawn. The next stops are already scheduled. It’s not flashy work, but the impact shows up in quieter nights, cleaner streets, and fewer animals suffering out of sight.

In July, the team set up inside Primaria Héroes del Bicentenario in Valle Dorado, utilizing the summer break to convert classrooms into recovery spaces. Every day hits capacity. The school setting mattered—families without cars could walk in, wait in the shade, and take pets home the same afternoon.
August delivered a first for the group: a clinic in rural Campestre de Cañadas. Residents came ready; local kids watched and asked questions; several returned with their own pets once they understood what sterilization prevents. That debut was pulled off with help from Proyecto Rescatando Amor, which handled outreach, registration, and the unglamorous but critical recovery work.
This week, the clinic relocated to Valle Esmeralda, a rapidly growing development on the outskirts of San Vicente. A local couple opened their home for four days, allowing the team to conduct surgeries and supervise post-operative recovery. Organizers say you rarely see strays there, and owners are keeping dogs leashed and picking up after them—the kind of neighborhood norm that keeps parks usable and tensions down.

After the current run, the calendar lists Las Aralias in Puerto Vallarta from September 24–27 at Sofi’s Bodega, October 8–11 in La Cruz at The Hideaway, October 22–25 in Ixtapa, and November 19–22 in Bucerías at Biblioteca Rey Nayar. Registration starts early, on a first-come, first-served basis, with no appointments. Animals are available for pickup on the same day.
From school patios to rural towns
This model—four-day, neighborhood-based clinics—has scale behind it. PEACEAnimals says it operates 44–48 such weeks each year across Puerto Vallarta and nearby towns, and when demand is apparent, it returns to the same place twice. Older data from a regional directory provide a sense of throughput: approximately 122 animals are sterilized per 3.5-day clinic week, with thousands more per year during peak seasons. The organization is registered in Mexico and routes U.S. tax-deductible donations through Banderas Bay Charities.
Independent research backs what residents notice on their blocks. A 2024 spatiotemporal study of sterilization campaigns in Mexico found that targeted, high-volume clinics can bend shelter and street pressures when they reach enough households in clustered areas. Mexico-wide estimates vary, but researchers agree that the country contends with large free-roaming dog and cat populations, making access and proximity—not just cost—decisive factors.
None of that makes the work glamorous. It does make it visible: classrooms turned into recovery bays; living rooms into intake desks; kids asking why it matters and then walking back with a nervous puppy. And there are the quieter tells—fewer packs near the market, fewer litters under stairwells, fewer late-night howls. The following clinic signs go up; the lines form before seven; the routine repeats, and the streets feel a little more manageable.
