Puerto Vallarta Welcomes Over 285,000 Cruise Passengers in First Half of 2024

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – The picturesque coastal city of Puerto Vallarta continues to solidify its reputation as a premier destination for cruise passengers. Promoted vigorously by the Government of Jalisco through the Ministry of Tourism (Secturjal) and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, the city’s efforts have paid off handsomely. The first half of 2024 saw an influx of 285,635 cruise passengers, marking a 13.8% increase compared to the first half of 2019, the onset of the current state administration.

Renowned for its stunning landscapes and vibrant cultural scene, Puerto Vallarta has become a favorite stop along the Mexican Riviera route. According to data from the National Port System Administration (Asipona), 94 cruise ships docked in Puerto Vallarta from January to June 2024. January proved to be the busiest month, with a record 72,889 passengers disembarking.

Vanessa Pérez Lamas, the Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, emphasized the significance of cruise tourism to the local economy. “Cruise tourism is of great importance due to the economic benefits it brings to the destination. During this semester, promotional actions have been carried out with the various international shipping companies that dock in Puerto Vallarta; but we have also made significant progress with the renovation of the dock infrastructure in the destination and on the beaches to the south of Puerto Vallarta, which allows us to dramatically improve the experiences that these cruise passengers can have in Vallarta,” she stated.

A key event contributing to this growth was the Seatrade Cruise Global 2024 held in April, where Puerto Vallarta was prominently featured, setting the stage for sustained growth in cruise passenger arrivals.

The array of cruise lines serving Puerto Vallarta includes industry giants such as Princess Cruises, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Vidanta Cruises, Windstar Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Celebrity X Cruises, Holland America Line, Oceania Cruises, Viking River Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line. Puerto Vallarta is equipped with three berthing positions, capable of accommodating three cruise ships simultaneously, even those with the highest specifications.

Puerto Vallarta’s appeal lies in its strategic location, modern infrastructure, diverse tourist attractions, security, and the warmth of its people. This combination has cemented the city’s status as one of Mexico’s most significant cruise ports, attracting visitors from around the globe.

As the city continues to enhance its facilities and promotional efforts, the future looks promising for Puerto Vallarta’s cruise tourism industry, ensuring that it remains a top choice for travelers exploring the Mexican Riviera.
