Puerto Vallarta’s Summer Tourism Booms with Record Occupancy Rates

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As the summer vacation period progresses, Puerto Vallarta is experiencing a significant boost in tourism, with hotel occupancy rates reaching an average of 78.67 percent. This figure marks an impressive increase of 8.17 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023 when occupancy was recorded at 70.5 percent.

According to preliminary data released by the Public Trust for the Promotion and Advertising of Tourism in Puerto Vallarta (Fidetur), the city has seen over 250,000 hotel rooms occupied since July 7. This influx of visitors has translated into nearly 240,000 tourists staying in hotels, with an average individual expenditure of 14,620 pesos. Consequently, the economic impact for the destination has surpassed 3,500 million pesos, highlighting the robust growth of the tourism sector in the area.

In addition to traditional hotel stays, digital rental platforms have played a crucial role in accommodating tourists. Approximately 50,000 visitors have chosen these platforms for their stay, reporting a 56 percent occupancy rate. The financial contribution from this segment is significant, with tourists spending over 600 million pesos during their time in Puerto Vallarta.

Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, provided insights into the composition of the tourist population this summer. He noted that 71.5 percent of the tourists hail from various regions of Mexico, demonstrating the strength of the domestic market. Meanwhile, 22 percent of visitors come from the United States, 5.2 percent from Canada, and 1.3 percent from other international locations.

“We know that during the summer vacation period, the influx of tourists is strengthened by the domestic market, hence the importance of the promotional actions previously implemented in different parts of the country,” said Villaseñor Nolasco. His comments underscore the importance of targeted promotional efforts in boosting domestic tourism and maintaining Puerto Vallarta’s status as a premier travel destination.

This surge in tourism is a promising sign for Puerto Vallarta’s economy, as the increased visitor numbers bring substantial economic benefits to the city. The combination of strong domestic and international tourism, coupled with effective marketing strategies, has positioned Puerto Vallarta as a leading destination for summer travelers seeking sun, sea, and culture.

The local tourism industry is optimistic about maintaining this momentum throughout the summer and beyond, capitalizing on the current trends to further enhance the city’s appeal as a top tourist destination in Mexico.
