San Pedro Civil Protection assists Texas floods search and rescue mission mobilizes two PC 911 units and five personnel to support relief efforts in the United States through July 19.
SAN PEDRO GARZA GARCÍA, NL – On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the municipality of San Pedro sent its Civil Protection team to join the second caravan organized by the Civil Protection of the State of Nuevo León. The convoy is bound for Texas, United States, where severe flooding has left communities cut off and in urgent need of assistance.
Two fully equipped PC 911 San Pedro vehicles, staffed by five trained emergency responders, departed early morning from San Pedro’s headquarters. They first traveled to the State Civil Protection offices, where they seamlessly linked up with the official Nuevo León contingent. A third support unit—carrying four additional personnel—remains on standby in San Pedro and can deploy as early as Saturday, July 12, to relieve teams working on the ground.
Once in Texas, the San Pedro units will dedicate six days to intensive search operations for missing persons. They will coordinate directly with local agencies, sharing real-time information on flooded areas, trapped residents, and evolving weather forecasts. “Our focus is on finding people quickly and safely,” said a PC 911 coordinator before departure. “We’re ready to bring every available resource to the field.”
After completing search and rescue duties on July 15, the San Pedro team will travel to a nearby training center in the United States. There, they will finish their annual swiftwater and movement rescue certification—a course officially recognized by both Mexican and U.S. Civil Protection authorities. The City Clerk announced this training during the latest Civil Protection Committee meeting, highlighting its role in maintaining standards and building cross-border collaboration.
The Municipal Government of San Pedro emphasized its commitment to ongoing professional development. “Our people train year-round to face emergencies at home and abroad,” stated the Municipal Secretary. “Joining this mission strengthens our capabilities and deepens our ties with our U.S. counterparts.”
Local officials underscored the broader significance of international cooperation. Flooding along the Texas Gulf Coast has displaced thousands and overwhelmed regional resources. By contributing personnel and equipment, San Pedro bolsters the overall rescue effort and reinforces solidarity between Nuevo León and Texas communities.
Throughout the mission, San Pedro command will maintain constant communication with municipal authorities back home. Daily briefings will cover search progress, safety alerts, and logistical updates. Families of deployed personnel have been assured of regular check-ins, and mental health support will be available upon the teams’ return.
Residents in San Pedro have rallied around the mission, sending messages of encouragement via social media and organizing a small send-off ceremony at City Hall. “Our community knows the risks our teams face,” said one supporter. “We’re proud they represent our city so professionally and bravely.”
The units are slated to remain in the United States until July 19, 2025. By then, officials expect to have completed both their rescue assignments and certification training. Upon return, the San Pedro Civil Protection crew will debrief with municipal leaders, sharing lessons learned and recommending updates to local emergency protocols.
As climate-driven weather events grow more frequent, these cross-border missions offer valuable experience in large-scale disaster response. For San Pedro, the operation underscores a dual goal: saving lives today while investing in tomorrow’s emergency readiness. In the words of the Municipal President, “When disaster strikes anywhere, we stand together. This mission shows what solidarity in action really means.”
