Gumball 3000 drew hundreds into San Miguel de Allende on Tuesday, June 9. The international car rally passed through Guanajuato on its way to Mexico City.
The caravan crossed key streets and ended at the Live Aqua San Miguel de Allende hotel, according to a local account of the event. Fans lined the route to see the luxury and performance cars up close.
The official San Miguel event page listed a public arrival window from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. It said more than 100 supercars would pass through the streets of Dolores Hidalgo, San Francisco, Cuadrante, and Dr. Ignacio Hernández Macías.
A World Cup road trip through Mexico
The San Miguel stop was part of Gumball 3000’s Miami to Mexico City 2026 route. Organizers branded the run as the “Road to the World Cup.”
The 27th annual rally runs from June 5 to 10. Its published route includes Miami, Amelia Island, New Orleans, Austin, Monterrey, San Miguel de Allende, and Mexico City.
The organization told fans in advance, “As always, Gumball 3000 is free to the public,” with no tickets required for the street viewing portion in San Miguel. Its own shorthand is simpler. “It’s A Rally, Not A Race.”
The stop gave San Miguel’s historic core a brief boost in sports tourism during World Cup week. Mexico’s host cities and tourist destinations are also preparing for the tournament opener in Mexico City on Thursday.
San Miguel has been leaning harder into event-based tourism this year. That includes sporting events, food festivals, and cultural programming.
Traffic congestion was reported around parts of the route as spectators gathered and temporary closures took effect.
