Up To 20 New Timeshare Developments Will Be Built in Mexico’s Top Tourist Destinations This Year, Including Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Travelers’ growing preference for vacation ownership is reshaping Mexico’s tourism landscape, with developers racing to introduce new destinations that cater to the evolving needs of international vacationers.

The Mexican Association of Tourism Developers (Amdetur) anticipates that between 15 and 20 new tourist complexes will debut this year. This expansion will bring the total number of developments offering vacation ownership to 785 nationwide. Major tourist hubs such as Cancún, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and the Riviera Maya continue to attract significant investment, while emerging markets like Mérida, San Miguel de Allende, Ensenada, and Valle de Guadalupe are quickly gaining momentum among international travelers.

“States like Baja California Sur, particularly the areas surrounding La Paz, along with regions in Nayarit and Yucatán, have also seen increased development,” an Amdetur spokesperson noted. The spokesperson emphasized that the inherent flexibility of modern vacation ownership products allows members to enjoy extended stays and access a diverse array of destinations under one membership, a feature that has significantly boosted the format’s appeal.

This innovative approach to vacationing appears to be paying off. The occupancy rates at major resorts offering vacation ownership are reportedly 10 percentage points higher than those at non-club hotels, underscoring the model’s popularity and success.

Furthermore, the trend has found a strong footing among American tourists, who now account for 70 percent of vacation property buyers in Mexico. This enthusiasm is bolstered by projections from the National Tourism Business Council (CNET), which forecasts a surge to 70 million international arrivals by 2025—a 5 percent increase over the previous year.

As the vacation ownership model continues to evolve and capture the imagination of travelers, industry experts predict that its influence will extend well beyond traditional resort locations, potentially redefining the way people experience vacationing in Mexico.
