Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 26, 2026 — Water service is gradually returning to northern Puerto Vallarta after repairs were completed on a leaking supply line that forced an outage across 139 neighborhoods and residential developments.
The Puerto Vallarta–Las Varas highway concessionaire completed the repair Saturday on the pumping line that feeds the San Francisco Tank. The company was responsible for the work because the affected infrastructure is connected to construction of the new highway.
In its latest service update, SEAPAL said recovery was scheduled to begin Saturday afternoon and evening in Ixtapa and neighborhoods along the corridor from Las Juntas to the Luis Donaldo Colosio Bypass.
Middle and upper sections of El Pitillal were expected to begin receiving water Sunday afternoon, once the San Francisco Tank had recovered sufficient levels. That is an earlier outlook than the initial warning that some elevated areas could remain without service until Sunday night or Monday morning.
The interruption began Friday and affected about 40% of the city’s neighborhoods. Vallarta Daily’s initial outage report identified Marina Vallarta, Versalles, Fluvial Vallarta, Aramara, Vallarta 500, Villas Río, La Vena, Las Aralias and Coapinole among the affected areas, along with Las Juntas, Las Mojoneras and parts of El Pitillal.
The return of water to the first neighborhoods does not mean pressure has been fully restored throughout the system. Tanks must refill, and distribution lines must be pressurized, leaving some properties with low pressure or intermittent service during the recovery. Upper streets and homes without ground-level storage are generally the last to receive stable service.
SEAPAL’s Saturday update did not provide a neighborhood-by-neighborhood restoration schedule for all 139 affected areas or confirm when full pressure would return. The utility asked customers to limit consumption while the system stabilizes so that water can reach higher sections more quickly.
This is the second large interruption involving the line feeding the San Francisco Tank in little more than a month. In June, work by the same highway concessionaire cut water service to 136 Puerto Vallarta neighborhoods while part of the line was relocated for the highway project.
The scale of both outages reflects the tank’s importance to the northern distribution network. In an earlier repair involving the broader system, SEAPAL described a main line carrying close to 400 liters per second from wells near the Ameca River toward the San Francisco Tank.
Neither SEAPAL’s update nor the concessionaire had publicly explained what caused the latest leak, whether it occurred in a recently relocated section, or whether additional work will be required to prevent another interruption.
