200,000 Tourists Expected to Visit Puerto Vallarta for Christmas and New Year

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico — As the December festivities unfold, Puerto Vallarta is poised to welcome a surge of visitors seeking a memorable holiday season. Between December 16, 2024, and January 6, 2025, tourism authorities estimate that approximately 199,781 travelers will arrive, contributing to a steady rise in economic activity during this 22-day period.

Forecasts indicate that hotel occupancy rates will average around 85.2% throughout the festive weeks, with levels surpassing 92% during the days leading up to the New Year celebrations. In total, an estimated 466,303 rooms are expected to be occupied. On average, national tourists are projected to spend approximately 9,058 pesos, while international visitors could spend up to 35,831 pesos. This spending pattern is anticipated to generate an economic impact of roughly 3,880 million pesos, providing a significant boost to the local economy as the year draws to a close.

Puerto Vallarta’s growing popularity among U.S. travelers further underlines its success this season. Recent data from Allianz Partners USA places the city in fourth position among international travel destinations for American tourists, surpassing both Punta Cana and Aruba in global rankings. This notable advancement emphasizes Puerto Vallarta’s appeal, attributed to its pristine beaches, vibrant cultural offerings, and welcoming atmosphere.

A substantial part of the city’s preparedness comes from improved connectivity. With over 50 direct air routes currently serving the region and enhanced ground transportation—most notably the recently inaugurated highway connecting Puerto Vallarta with Guadalajara and the Bajío region—arrivals are more streamlined than ever. These infrastructural enhancements are expected to set new records in visitor numbers, hotel occupancy, and overall economic contributions this season.

“Puerto Vallarta is consolidating its position this winter as one of the favorite destinations for American travelers looking for exceptional experiences. The unique combination of beautiful beaches, rich local culture, and unparalleled hospitality has made the destination the ideal refuge for those looking to escape the cold in a tropical paradise,” said Luis Villaseñor Nolasco of the city’s Tourism Trust.

As the holiday season continues, Puerto Vallarta stands prepared to welcome visitors from around the globe, reinforcing its reputation as a premier winter escape and showcasing its continued evolution as a leading international tourism destination.
