Los Cabos Trains City Staff Before Heavy Rains Arrive

Los Cabos is adding another layer to its rainy-season preparation, this time by training municipal employees before storms become an immediate concern. The course focused on risk management, climate change, and coordination among city departments. Local officials said the goal is to improve response capacity before the cyclone season brings heavier rain, flooding risks, and other weather-related emergencies to the municipality.

Los Cabos trains officials in risk management

Los Cabos municipal employees received training in risk management and climate change as the city continues preparations for the 2026 rainy and cyclone season.

The XV Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos held the course for public employees from different municipal departments. Officials said the training is intended to strengthen coordination across city agencies before storms, heavy rain, or other weather-related emergencies require a response.

Municipal employees receive risk training

The course, titled “Gestión de Riesgo y Cambio Climático,” was held under the municipal administration of Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez. The training aimed to improve institutional readiness before the most active months of the rainy and hurricane seasons.

Alberto Rentería Santana, the municipal secretary general, attended on behalf of the mayor. He said city departments need steady preparation and stronger coordination to protect families in Los Cabos during the cyclone season.

Francisco Cota Márquez, director of Civil Protection and Risk Management, said ongoing training for municipal personnel is part of the city’s emergency-readiness work. He said staff preparation is tied to the municipality’s ability to respond to emergencies and natural disasters, including those linked to climate change.

Course follows other storm-season planning

The training follows other municipal preparation steps in Los Cabos ahead of the 2026 season.

City officials previously said the Pacific cyclone season began May 15 and that local planning includes evacuation protocols, risk-zone reviews, and preparation of temporary shelters. The municipality has also reviewed shelter sites and coordinated with public safety, education, DIF Los Cabos, and other departments involved in emergency response.

The latest course was presented as part of that wider preparation work. Officials said the city will continue training, prevention, and interagency coordination for hydrometeorological events and other climate-related contingencies.
