SEAPAL Sets Detours for Las Palmas Closure in Vallarta

SEAPAL Sets Detours for Las Palmas Closure in Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 26, 2026 – SEAPAL published detours Monday for an estimated 15-day closure of Avenida Las Palmas at Avenida México, where crews are replacing a sewer line.

For drivers in Parque Las Palmas, the practical question is how to reach Avenida México while that connection is closed. The route depends on whether you need to head north or south.

In its October 26 traffic notice, SEAPAL identifies the affected section as Avenida Las Palmas at the work area near Avenida México. The utility lists these diversions, coordinated with municipal traffic authorities:

  • Heading north: Take Palma Areka, continue along Bahía de Tenacatita, then use the alley behind the Fiscalía (prosecutor’s office) to reach Avenida México.
  • Heading south: Take Palma Areka, then Palma Real, Avenida Manuel Lepe, and Avenida Las Flores to rejoin Avenida México.

Both routes begin on Palma Areka, but they separate after that. For someone planning a pickup or delivery, for example, sharing the appropriate street sequence gives the driver a more useful approach than the closed intersection alone.

SEAPAL asks motorists to allow extra travel time, follow temporary signs and obey traffic officers’ instructions.

Deep sewer work behind the traffic restrictions

SEAPAL says crews are excavating between five and six meters deep at the intersection, with unstable ground requiring special precautions for workers.

Its original project announcement describes replacing 66 meters of existing 15-inch sewer pipe with 20-inch pipe and building two maintenance access chambers. The work follows an earlier intervention on a sewer siphon at the same location.

The intended benefit is greater capacity to carry wastewater and another route to move it through the network. Those are SEAPAL’s projected improvements; the announcement does not demonstrate that the completed work will eliminate sewage overflows.

“We know the work can cause traffic and some inconvenience,” SEAPAL director Carlos Alberto Ruiz said when announcing the project.

For drivers navigating the disruption, the key landmarks are specific: the northbound diversion passes behind the Fiscalía, while the southbound diversion returns to Avenida México through Avenida Las Flores.
