Man Seriously Injured in Shooting at Puerto Vallarta Shopping Center

A man sustained severe injuries after being shot at the northern entrance to Puerto Vallarta in a violent incident that took place early Monday morning, sparking a large-scale security operation.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. in a shopping mall area located on the border between Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, along Federal Highway 200. According to initial reports, the victim, a man between the ages of 45 and 50, was traveling in a white Toyota pickup truck with Jalisco license plates when he was ambushed by unknown attackers.

Witnesses, including the victim’s wife who was present at the scene, recounted the terrifying moment when a vehicle pulled up alongside their truck as they turned into an alley dividing both directions of the highway. The occupants of the other vehicle opened fire, hitting the man at least twice. One bullet struck him in the skull, and another lodged in his neck, leaving him in critical condition.

The attackers quickly fled the scene after the shooting. Rescue teams, which had been stationed nearby, arrived promptly and treated the victim before rushing him to a private hospital, where his condition remains critical.

Local authorities have launched an extensive investigation into the attack. Elements from the three levels of government—municipal, state, and federal—are participating in a security operation aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring the safety of residents and travelers in the area. The Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences is currently collecting evidence at the scene, while law enforcement has cordoned off the area to facilitate the investigation.

The northern entrance to Puerto Vallarta is a busy zone, serving as a major artery for traffic between the tourist destination and Bahía de Banderas, a growing municipality that straddles both Jalisco and Nayarit.
