Seapal Vallarta Announces Rehabilitation of Eleven Deep Water Wells to Secure City’s Water Supply

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico—Seapal Vallarta, the city’s water utility, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate eleven deep water wells to ensure the continuous supply of drinking water to Puerto Vallarta. The initiative aims to maintain the proper functioning of these vital sources and guarantee water availability for both residents and visitors.

A recent study conducted by Seapal Vallarta’s new management identified that approximately 30% of the city’s deep water wells require significant intervention. Alejandro Padilla Viorato, Director of Operations at Seapal Vallarta, explained that these wells need large-scale maintenance to prevent a decline in water production and to extend their operational lifespan.

“The lack of consistent maintenance in previous years, changes in the subsoil, and overexploitation due to the city’s rapid growth have adversely affected our deep wells,” Padilla Viorato stated. “Major maintenance is necessary to restore and preserve their functionality.”

Despite the urgency, the rehabilitation program cannot be implemented immediately. The tight margin between water production and consumption makes it impossible to temporarily shut down these supply sources without impacting the city’s water supply. “Although this action is crucial to provide the quality service that the people of Vallarta and its visitors deserve, we cannot execute this program quickly,” Padilla Viorato noted.

Seapal Vallarta currently operates 34 wells that extract 1,172 liters per second out of an installed capacity of 1,260 liters per second. Given this narrow margin, the rehabilitation tasks are scheduled to be carried out over a projected period of five years. This phased approach will help maintain and improve water availability, especially in the northern neighborhoods of Puerto Vallarta.

The rehabilitation program is part of Seapal Vallarta’s broader efforts to increase the production of drinking water and ensure a sustainable supply amid the city’s accelerated growth. The utility emphasizes the importance of proactive maintenance to address infrastructural wear and environmental factors affecting the water system.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the rehabilitation schedule and any potential impacts on water service during the maintenance period. Seapal Vallarta remains committed to providing quality water services and appreciates the community’s understanding and support during this essential initiative.
