PUERTO VALLARTA, Jalisco – The long-anticipated Civil Hospital in Puerto Vallarta is on track to break ground in 2026, according to Jalisco Health Secretary Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez. The project, announced by Governor Pablo Lemus, forms part of a larger strategy to bolster the state’s Civil Hospital Network, in partnership with the University of Guadalajara (UdeG).
Secretary Pérez Gómez confirmed that while ground will not be broken until 2026, active work on the planning and design phase has already begun. This stage, being coordinated with the Jalisco Infrastructure Secretariat, will ensure that the hospital’s construction phase is carried out smoothly and on time.
Once operational, the new facility is projected to serve nearly 700,000 residents in Jalisco’s coastal regions as well as neighboring areas in Nayarit. Health authorities expect the hospital to not only improve access to healthcare but also strengthen medical education and research through its collaboration with UdeG.
“In addition to offering high-quality medical services, the Civil Hospital in Puerto Vallarta will enhance our capacity for advanced research and training,” said Pérez Gómez. “This represents a milestone in healthcare for coastal communities and underscores our commitment to expand quality care throughout the region.”
Further updates on the project’s progress—ranging from funding structures to recruitment—are expected later in the year as planning continues. Officials remain optimistic that this significant step forward will provide a substantial boost to public health, research, and medical education along the coast.
