False Rumors That Puerto Vallarta Has Imposed a Curfew After Violent Weekend

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Audio recordings and images circulating on social media on Monday spread fear among residents of Puerto Vallarta. The content, which allegedly warned of a curfew starting at 9 p.m., emerged amid recent violence in different parts of the city.

The viral image contained the following message:

“All the people of Puerto Vallarta are informed that there will be a curfew starting at 9 p.m. due to what has happened these days with the cleanup of all those grasshoppers, criminals, and brave people who play at being drug dealers.”

The message was purportedly signed by a criminal group known as “the four letters” and was falsely attributed to a local media outlet.

The media outlet quickly denied any involvement in disseminating this warning, stating that the publication was fake and disassociating itself from the message entirely.

As of now, authorities have not issued any official statements regarding the alleged curfew. Residents are advised to stay informed through reliable channels and to avoid spreading unverified information that could generate collective panic.

Local community leaders have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant. “It’s important for everyone to verify the information they come across before sharing it,” said one official. “Misinformation can escalate fears and complicate the efforts of law enforcement.”

The recent spate of violence has left many in the community on edge, amplifying the impact of the false curfew warning. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Violence in Puerto Vallarta Over Weekend

In recent days, Puerto Vallarta has experienced a surge of violence that has put both authorities and residents on high alert. Since Tuesday, November 19, several attacks involving firearms and knives have resulted in deaths and injuries across various parts of the city.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday in the Romantic Zone, where an elderly man was murdered in broad daylight at the intersection of Venustiano Carranza and Ignacio L. Vallarta streets. The shocking nature of the crime has left the community in disbelief and heightened concerns about public safety.

The violence escalated over the weekend. In the early hours of Sunday, an argument in the Ixtapa district turned deadly when two people lost their lives and four others were injured. Authorities responding to the scene recovered more than 30 shell casings of 7.62×39 caliber, commonly associated with “cuerno de chivo” or AK-47 type weapons.

Just hours later, also in the Ixtapa district, an armed attack claimed the life of a woman and left a flatbed transport driver injured. This incident took place early Monday morning on Independencia Street, where assailants used an AR-15 rifle to attack a vehicle. The shooting caused panic among residents of the Tamatindos neighborhood.

The violence has not been confined to Puerto Vallarta alone. On Monday morning, a shooting occurred in Bucerías, Bahía de Banderas. An intense exchange of gunfire at the intersection of Riviera Nayarit Boulevard and Estaciones Avenue left four people injured. The entrance of CMQ Hospital sustained damage, and numerous spent cartridges were found at the scene.

The escalating violence in the region has generated widespread uncertainty among the population. Residents are calling for increased security measures and a more robust response from law enforcement agencies to address the rising tide of criminal activity.
