Gaviotas and Mikado Await 2026 World Culinary Awards

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 17, 2026 – Two Puerto Vallarta hotel restaurants are waiting on World Culinary Awards results after online voting closed Friday. Gaviotas is chasing its third straight Latin American title, while Mikado is competing in a 14-entry national field.

The official nominee lists place Gaviotas at Sheraton Buganvilias among nine candidates seeking recognition as Latin America’s Best Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant. Mikado at Marriott Puerto Vallarta is nominated as Mexico’s Best Hotel Restaurant.

The awards organization said voting ran from June 25 through August 14. The nominee portal now marks balloting closed, leaving the restaurants waiting until winners are announced at the World Culinary Awards gala in Jamaica on Wednesday, October 14.

Gaviotas enters the results period with the stronger awards history. The World Culinary Awards’ category record names the Sheraton Buganvilias restaurant as the winner in both 2024 and 2025. PVDN reported its 2024 victory after it defeated a field of restaurants from major hotels across Latin America.

A win this year would give Gaviotas three consecutive titles. Its 2026 competitors include Al Pairo at Solaz in Los Cabos, La Table Krug at the St. Regis Mexico City and restaurants attached to hotels in Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

The Sheraton’s dining information describes Gaviotas as a contemporary Mexican restaurant using local and endemic ingredients with pre-Hispanic roots. The restaurant is located at Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio 999 in the Las Glorias section of the Hotel Zone.

Mikado is Puerto Vallarta’s only entry in the national hotel restaurant category. Its competition includes restaurants at W, InterContinental, Four Seasons, St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria, Kempinski and JW Marriott properties in Mexico City, Cancún, Tulum, Los Cabos and the Riviera Maya.

Located inside Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa in Marina Vallarta, Mikado specializes in teppanyaki and made-to-order sushi. The hotel lists dinner service from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. daily.

World Culinary Awards winners are selected through online voting rather than an anonymous restaurant inspection or critic panel. Under the organization’s official voting rules, verified culinary industry ballots carry twice the weight of public ballots. The nominee receiving the highest valid vote total is declared the category winner after ballots are checked and counted.

The seventh annual ceremony will be held at Princess Grand Jamaica. The October 14 result will determine whether Gaviotas extends its regional winning streak and whether Mikado earns Puerto Vallarta a second title in a separate national category.
