Green Patrol’s Mid-Year Report: 774 Services Rendered to Protect Puerto Vallarta’s Animals

Since its inception, the Citizen Security Police Department’s “Green Patrol” project has been steadfast in its mission to protect the animals and flora of Puerto Vallarta. The first half of 2024 has seen a substantial number of interventions, with officers responding to 774 services, predominantly addressing reports related to dog bites.

The Green Patrol’s efforts to manage canine-related issues have been notable. The team responded to 107 dog bites, 98 reports of aggressive dogs, 25 instances of neglected dogs, 24 cases of dogs being run over, 24 reports of injured dogs, 15 instances of abused dogs, 15 cases of abandoned dogs, 13 reports of dead dogs, 11 instances of rowdy dogs, 8 cases of stuck dogs, 6 reports of poisoned dogs, 6 instances of lost dogs, and 3 reports of sick dogs.

Cat-related incidents also demanded attention, with 15 reports of abandoned cats on public roads, 13 cases of stuck cats, 10 instances of injured cats, 7 reports of poisoned cats, 6 cases of cats being run over, 4 reports of dead cats, 3 instances of sick cats, and 3 reports of aggressive cats.

The Green Patrol attended to various bird-related incidents, including 6 reports of injured pelicans, 4 instances of injured birds, 3 reports of injured owls, 2 cases of owls outside their habitat, 2 reports of birds outside their nests, 2 instances of injured ducks, 3 reports of pichichines ducks outside their environment, one injured heron, one injured seagull, one injured eagle, and one dead rooster.

Reptile-related interventions included 27 reports of snakes outside their habitat, 25 instances of iguanas outside their environment, 13 reports of crocodiles outside their environment, 7 instances of injured iguanas, 3 reports of dead iguanas, and one report of a poisonous lizard (Gila monster).

The patrol also handled 16 reports of opossums out of their habitat, 16 reports of opossums out of their environment, 5 cases of raccoons out of their environment, 2 reports of injured opossums, 2 instances of injured raccoons, 2 reports of injured badgers, 2 cases of badgers out of their environment, 2 instances of injured squirrels, one dead raccoon, one report of a dead squirrel, and one report of a deer out of its environment.

Turtle and Marine Life Incidents

In marine life, the team responded to 2 reports of turtle nests, 12 instances of turtles laying eggs, 5 reports of turtles outside their habitat, one instance of turtles being born, one dead turtle, and one report of whale remains on the beach.

Farm animal-related incidents included 14 reports of loose cattle, 13 instances of horses outside their corral, 4 reports of dead horses, 3 instances of dead cows, 3 reports of injured cows, 2 injured goats, one injured horse, and one dead pig.

In terms of flora, the Green Patrol attended to 9 reports of tree felling and one report of sewage spillage.
