Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 14, 2026 – Rain-triggered landslides continued to affect Federal Highway 200 south of Puerto Vallarta this weekend, with crews responding to another slide near kilometer 195 in Cabo Corrientes.
The latest reported slide happened Saturday, June 13, on the stretch between Juntas y Los Veranos and Barranca Honda. Rocks, soil, and a fallen tree partly blocked the south-to-north lane, according to a road update from Cabo Corrientes Civil Protection and Firefighters.
PVDN reviewed the latest public updates before publication. By 2:01 p.m. Saturday, crews reported that traffic had been restored, but authorities kept the corridor under watch because the area remains prone to new slides during rain.
Road open, but crews remain on alert
The affected stretch is part of the Puerto Vallarta-Cabo Corrientes corridor used by residents, workers, delivery drivers, and visitors heading toward Boca de Tomatlán, the Vallarta Botanical Garden, El Tuito, and communities farther south.
Civil protection crews marked the site while cleanup work was carried out. Heavy machinery was brought in to remove material from the roadway, according to the update on the Highway 200 slide.
The warning is not limited to one slide. Cabo Corrientes authorities identified the kilometer 193 to 195 area as one of the more active points for landslides during the rainy season, especially around Las Juntas y Los Veranos, Barranca Honda, and Boca de Tomatlán.
A separate Friday update said traffic had also been restored after an earlier slide near kilometer 194, while crews continued cleaning ditches and removing smaller debris from the roadway.
PVDN has followed the same corridor in earlier coverage, including Highway 200 slide work south of Vallarta and a separate rockslide that slowed traffic near Boca de Tomatlán.
Rain keeps the corridor vulnerable
The road risk comes as the rainy season becomes more active across western Mexico. The National Meteorological Service’s general forecast, issued at 6 p.m. Saturday, warned that heavy to intense rain may raise rivers and arroyos, trigger landslides, cause flooding in low areas, and reduce visibility.
For Sunday, the same national weather forecast called for heavy rain with very heavy points in parts of Jalisco. It also forecast wind gusts of 30 to 50 km/h in the state.
Those conditions matter on Highway 200 because sections south of Puerto Vallarta run beside steep slopes. A cleared slide does not mean the route is free of loose rock, mud, branches, or slow-moving equipment.
What drivers should watch
Drivers heading south from Puerto Vallarta should check road conditions before leaving, especially after rain or near dusk. The highest concern remains the mountain stretch between Boca de Tomatlán, Las Juntas y Los Veranos, and Barranca Honda.
Cabo Corrientes Civil Protection and Firefighters urged motorists to reduce speed, follow emergency personnel’s instructions, and avoid stopping beside slopes where fresh material is visible. Authorities also warned drivers not to stop in areas where rockfalls or soil movement are visible.
For residents and visitors planning trips to El Tuito, southern beaches, or communities in Cabo Corrientes, timing matters. A route that is open in the morning can slow down again after a heavy downpour.
