León balloon festival confirms 200 balloons and big acts

León’s sky is about to get loud and colorful. The state unveiled the 2025 program: 200 balloons, sunrise launches, and a free “Friday of the People” to open the gates early. On the ground, Disney brings a 70th-anniversary balloon while “King Capybara” floats in for its first FIG roar. Nights turn into concerts—Martin Garrix on Saturday, Gloria Trevi Friday, Carín León Sunday—with the lakefront glowing after dark. Here’s what’s new, what’s confirmed, and how the city plans to handle the rush.

León’s state government just pulled the wrap off this year’s Festival Internacional del Globo, setting Nov. 14–17 at Parque Metropolitano for 200 hot-air balloons from 25 countries, plus new attractions on the ground. The opening morning will be free as part of a new “Viernes de la Gente” initiative aimed at increasing access, and organizers are leaning into both spectacle and inclusivity. León balloon festival fans know what that means at dawn: burners up, color everywhere.

Music is locked in across three big nights. Gloria Trevi headlines Friday, Nov. 14; The Dream Nite takes over Saturday with Martin Garrix and fellow EDM heavyweights; and Carín León closes Sunday. The festival’s authorized ticketing on eTicket lists sessions from early morning through evening and dedicated VIP options, while Garrix’s own tour page shows his Nov. 15 León date at Parque Metropolitano.

Ambassadors and on-stage personalities return as part of the show-within-the-show. Raúl Araiza was introduced as an official ambassador at the program reveal, and Alex Montiel—“El Escorpión Dorado”—announced he’ll be there with a balloon branded to his persona. Some outlets also report additional hosting talent in the mix; either way, expect familiar faces guiding the crowd between launches and concerts.

The special-shape roster is designed to trend. Disney is sending a commemorative balloon marking 70 years of Disneyland, and “King Capybara” joins the fleet—an online darling turned sky-size character that pilots and spotters have chased across feeds all fall. Inside the park, a Marca Guanajuato pavilion showcases local makers—from leather goods to wine—so visitors aren’t just watching the sky; they’re tasting the state.

How the city plans to handle the rush

The free Friday morning is a fundamental change of pace. The state says gates open for everyone to witness the inauguration, the monumental flag ceremony, and even a planned Mexican Air Force flyover. Day passes and multi-day options are available through eTicket, which also lists operating hours from pre-dawn inflation calls to the night program. If you’re aiming for sunrise ascents, set that alarm early.

Crowds and money will follow. Authorities project more than 400,000 attendees and about 850 million pesos in economic impact—figures that line up with last year’s outcomes and the long weekend retail surge of Buen Fin. In 2024, the festival drew roughly 400,000 people and generated around 800 million pesos, according to state and local reports; this year’s target nudges higher.

What does that mean for travelers? Expect full hotels, heavier traffic around the lake, and long lines at peak hours. The city and tourism boards frame FIG as a family-first event with “noches mágicas” after dark—those tether-and-glow evenings that convert the shoreline into a light show—so plan your day to catch both the dawn lift-off and the night glow without trying to sprint between them.
